Comfort zones are where dreams go to decay.
The human mind and body loves routine and repetition. This is where we feel safest, doing what we usually, exactly as we usually do it. But what if your usual is a self-destructive pattern or habit? What if your usual is consistently bringing drama and stress into your life? This is your norm, your comfort zone, but how much comfort does it bring you?
I’ve been there, and I was able to come up with 101 reasons why it was always circumstances out of my control, and not my own behaviours, that were holding me back. Because I was attached to my dysfunction, and thought that my destructive cycles of procrastination and foregoing countless opportunities were “harmless.” But this was harming me, actively and passively. I was just desensitized to just how much. If there’s a change that you need to make in your life, but you just can’t seem to take that first step, or follow through, you are living in the discomfort zone. I promise you: Nothing is going to change in that environment, and you cannot change it. You can only love yourself to leave it and allow the initial resistance to unfamiliarity to lead you into joy.
